Vehicles in category S are structurally damaged, but they can be repaired. All category S cars must be re-registered from DVLA before you put your car back on the road.

Report online on DVLA’s website
Tell DVLA your insurer’s name and postcode
Provide DVLA with your car registration number

For category A or B, you must send your V5C logbook to your insurance provider but destroy the yellow section that includes selling, transferring, or part-exchanging the car to the trader.
